Before being sworn in as our nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln embarked on his inaugural train journey from Springfield to Washington, D.C. - Vermilion County was his last stop in his beloved home state of Illinois.
Lincoln’s final remarks to the thousands gathered were “If I find I have blessings at my disposal, Old Vermilion will come in for a bountiful share.”
